WHO WE ARE

At the Church of Gaia, we have a unified core focus which is the love of the Goddess Gaia and the plants that she has blessed us with. Our foundational belief honors the Earth and all things upon it. Humans, animals, birds, insects, plants, and all creatures alike are sacred and cherished. This indigenous belief is the root of our religion and traditions. With the sacrament of Ayahuasca, we can connect with the spirit of all parts of the Earth, as well as our Creator and the Divine guides and ancestors of the spirit realms. Also known as The Holy Mother, Ayahuasca is the keystone to our awakening; connecting us to Mother Earth, humankind, and the highest version of our true selves.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

We realize the unique nature of our church and religion! Many people are very curious and have many questions about who we are, what we believe in, and how it differs from mainstream Western religions. While a religion based on earth-centered and shamanistic practices may feel "new" to the Western world, it's actually some of the oldest practices and traditions in time. The lineages of our indigenous elders have been working with plants and communicating with the spirit realms for thousands of years! Read our most frequently asked questions at the link below!

LEGAL INFORMATION

If you've been following our social media or email updates for any amount of time, you know that we've been in the process of seeking legal protection for our sacrament and religion for about a year. We have filed a petition for a religious exemption with the DEA for the use of Ayahuasca, which is currently categorized as a schedule 1 drug. It's imperative that our members feel safe to practice and use our sacrament without fear of prosecution. This section aims to discuss the petition and our legal process so that there is full transparency with our members.

LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

We respectfully acknowledge that we live, work, and gather on the traditional lands of the interior Salish tribes, specifically including the Spokane Tribe, the Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation, the Coeur d'Alene Tribe, the Kalispel Tribe of Indians, and the Kootenai Tribe of Idaho. These tribes have been the caretakers of these lands for thousands of years, in which we recognize their profound cultural, spiritual, and historical connection to place. We express our gratitude for the enduring presence and contributions of all Indigenous peoples to the cultural, ecological, and social fabric of this region which we benefit from today. We honor the wisdom and practices they continue to impart, which help guide others to the path of a more holistic way of being, and sustains the land and its ecosystems for future generations. With this acknowledgement, we are personally committed to supporting First Nations peoples in the following ways: (1) the recognition and fulfillment of the Tribes' treaty rights; (2) to be responsible stewards of the land both physically and spiritually, upholding sacred reciprocity with our non-human kin; and (3) to listening, learning, and engaging in efforts that promote reconciliation, healing, and respect for Native communities and organizations.

ELDER ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

We are so thankful and abundantly fortunate to have forged such strong and beautiful relationships with our teachers. They have offered us the gift of knowledge that has been passed down through their family for generations. There are no words that we can use that express our gratitude and love for the ones who take the time to teach and guide us along the path of their ancestors. But may we offer this simple phrase: Kano bora akinra, meaning - these connections help me. We have many teachers and mentors who have made a difference in our life, but we'd like to offer special gratitude to Maestro Tito Amasifen Magin and Maestro Wetsako Teddy Romayna Rodríguez of the Shipibo-Konibo community of Peru. We also express many thanks to our plant and animal teachers and allies, as well as our spiritual guides and ancestors. May we continue to walk as humble students of this path.
